distributor Tanya York will release her book How to Make Money Making
Movies – The Secrets of Becoming a Profitable Filmmaker, nationwide on
Jan 22nd, with all of the profits going to the Hollywood Arts Charity.
York herself produced her first film at 19, and has produced 30 urban,
action & horror feature films over the past 20 years, all of which have
turned profits. She has also distributed over 1000 films as founder and
CEO of York Entertainment, York International Inc., and Urban Girl
productions. Utilizing her vast experience in every aspect of the
successful financing, production and distribution of an Independent Film,
York has assembled a hands-on guide for the next generation of
Independent Filmmakers.
With a foreword written by Mario Van Peebles (New Jack City, Judgment
Day, Ali), “How To Make Money..” also includes interviews and insider
knowledge from numerous Hollywood Heavyweights including Josh
Olson - Oscar Nominee (A History of Violence), William Wisher Jr. (Live
Free or Die Hard, Terminator 2), Darryl Quarles (Big mammas House,
Family Ties), Carlos Gallardo (El Mariachi, Grindhouse), Lloyd Kaufman
(Troma Films) as well as many others.
“The reason I wrote this book”, York explains “ Is to use my 20 years of
experience to help Independent filmmakers not only realize their creative
dreams, but make money as well. My distribution company receives over
100 completed films per month seeking distribution, but only 2-4 titles per
month are actually good enough for us to buy.”
A portion of the proceeds from “How To Make Money Making Movies” will
go to Hollywood Arts ( www.hollywood-arts.org ), a one-of-a-kind arts
academy for homeless and foster care young people located in the heart
of Hollywood that uses the arts-education to help homeless youth
become self-sufficient.
