England, is an accomplished entrepreneur and philanthropist. She is the
founder and sole owner of York Entertainment, York International Inc, and
Urban Girl productions, and specializes in producing and distributing
high concept genre-driven Independent Films throughout the world.
By analyzing industry-specific buying trends, Tanya placed the York brand
in every major video retailer (including Wall-mart, Blockbuster, Best Buy,
Big Lots, & Hollywood Video) nationwide. Always an innovator, York saw
the impeding doom of the VHS format and was one of the first
Independent distributors to release their full catalog on DVD, painting her
as a leader in the Home Video Distribution industry.
An expert in Independent film production, Tanya has produced 30 Urban,
Action & Horror feature films, creating a genre-specific “Faster-Cheaper-
Better” business model that is emulated industry-wide, and has put her
at the forefront of the urban crossover movement.
Specializing in optimizing new avenues for film distribution, York foresaw
the rise in global demand for independent films and programming and
created a sales and marketing strategy that would initiate lucrative
licensing deals for her films in over 100 countries worldwide.
The Hollywood Reporter named Tanya one of Hollywood’s most
influential women in 2002, and she’s currently enrolled in MIT’s Sloan
Business School’s entrepreneurial program “Birthing of Giants”, an
exclusive program designed to integrate leadership, practice and theory
among the next generation of entrepreneurs.
Aside from the video industry, Tanya opened Studio Yoga in 2003, and
also balances the responsibilities of single parenting a teenager,
obtaining her private pilots license, and donating her time to volunteer at
a crisis hotline.
